Duathlon Training

Well, I'm training for something I've never done before, a duathlon. The RJ Corman Duathlon which benefits that Chrysalis House in Lexington, Kentucky will take place on October 2nd. The race consists of a 5K run, 15 mile bike, and another 5K run.
I've only been biking for about two months, so I'm still a little skeptical about the bike. My first real training run was Monday night. I ran the 5K and got right on the bike and rode 10 miles. So, 13.1 miles...8.1 more to go.
It's not a question of if I think I can do it, because I know I can. The question is: Am I going to come in last? I surely hope not. When I registered, I put my target time as 2 hours. I am hoping for less than that.
I have a 15 mile ride planned with Kris on Friday after school, so we'll see how that goes. I'm still a little nervous about riding on the road, especially when there is no shoulder and no bike lane. For those of you from Danville, we are planning on riding Highway 33 on Friday. EEK! I know how I drive on that road, so what does that say about how I feel about riding my bike on that road???

  2. Riding a bike and then running is much harder than running then riding. Make sure you practice it both ways!

    good luck!
