An update on the sinus headache/cold...

Okay fellow bloggies, I have the perfect solution for a sinus headache/cold. I am allergic to penicillin, so all of the GOOD antibiotics are out of the question for me. So, I usually stick to over the counter decongestants to take care of a sinus headache/cold.
I've been taking medicine since Saturday night, and it was improving, but not by much. Yesterday, I had an appointment for an adjustment at the chiropractor. When I walked in, he said, "You sound awful!". I said, "I know. If you could fix this sinus problem, we'd be great.". His response? "Actually, I can."
He hooked me up to a stem machine with two pads right above my eyebrows and two pads just below my eyes...right where the sinus cavity is located. And...WOW! You don't feel the relief instantly, but I started to feel loads better last night. I didn't wake up during the night at all. And when I woke up this morning, almost gone! So...I went back today for a second dose!
Sinus headache you say??? Go to the chiropractor! :)

Weekend in Review! And what a great weekend it was!

What an amazing weekend, for running and everything else in life!
My weekend started Friday night with a fabulous dinner with my husband and a pair of great friends at one of our favorite places, Giovanni's! If this is how I could start every weekend, I'd be golden!
On to Saturday! Saturday was the Railroad Days 5K Race in Junction City, Kentucky. This course is known for being a very flat out and back course. Lots of PR's were set on Saturday, including myself! 26:26! Up until now, my best was 27 minutes on the nose. YAY! Not only did I get a PR, but so did so many others. Not to mention, my mom and my stepdad were both there to run/walk the race too! They did great! My stepdad ran it in 32:10 and my mom improved her time from the last race by 12 minutes. Not bad for someone who had a total hip replacement a
year ago! Way to go!

Saturday night, Jeremiah and I went to our nephew's birthday party, and had some well spent time with family. Upon pulling in the driveway at
home, he said, "Get in the shower. We're going to Carrabba's". I tell you, he sure knows the way to my heart. So we got in the car, went to Lexington, and had a great meal, just the two of us.

I was up half of the night because I thought my allergies were bothering me and I had to constantly blow my nose! Woke up Sunday, ready for a 7 miler with Bobbie! :) Love her! While running, most of my congestion disappeared and I thought it was over. Boy, was I wrong or what? Got home, took a shower, laid on the couch, and the pain began. Sniffling, coughing, headacher, you name it! I slept for one hour on the couch, then got in the bed for another two hours of sleep. My family had a get together Sunday night at my aunt's house. Good times had by all!
All in all, a fabulous weekend!
It's become a tradition to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel after our races! Here's our crew from Saturday!

SPIBelt Review! - If you don't have one, you need one!

I love my SPIBelt! When I was told I needed to try a SPIBelt, I was a little skeptical. I don't like to run with a whole lot of gear due to the fact of feeling heavier than I would like. But, I thought I should at least give it a try. So, I contacted SPIBelt and they were gracious enough to send me a free one to try and review here on my blog.
I got to pick out which one I wanted to try, which was awesome! I chose the sweat resistant SPIBelt because I am what I call, a sweat hog! I sweat everyday, all day, even if it's -10 degrees outside. I always have to layer my shirts, due to the fact that if I don't, there will be sweat spots all over my shirt. So, you can see why I chose the belt that I chose!
Being skeptical teaches you nothing! I received my SPIBelt in the mail, stuck my GU in it, along with my car keys and my cell phone. Off for a run I go! Let me just say this...I haven't run without it since! I wear it so that the pouch is on my backside and when I need something, I just reach down and turn it to the front. The best part? The sweat resistant belt, is actually SWEAT RESISTANT! When I finish my workouts, nothing is wet and my gummies aren't stuck together! YAY! I also use it to clip my iPod Shuffle to it. This way I don't have to slip it to the waistband of my shorts.
I wear it when I run and when I bike. I'm so attached to it that I may never train without it!
What an amazing concept! Thank you SPIBelt!

ALO Medium Impact Sports Bra REVIEW!

All I can say is WOW! ALO sent me this wonderful Medium Impact Sports Bra to try and review on my blog. And, I love it! It fits perfectly, the material is wonderful, and I love the skinny straps! Some of my sports bras with thick straps rub by my neck and get on my nerves. This one, I don't even feel like I have one on at all. The bra itself is 90% nylon and 10% spandex. My only advice, wash it before you wear it. I get so excited about new things that I put them right on without washing them. I wore this sports bra with a white shirt, and it bled. My shirt was an aqua color in certain areas when I finished my run. But, totally my fault! Should have washed it before I tried it out. I was just so excited! I wanted to wear it the day it came in the mail!

It also has an area on the front and the back that are strictly mesh, with no real fabric. This makes the bra much more breathable than other bras that I have. This sports bra has quickly become my favorite one to wear, especially on long runs! It's comfortable, cute, and I don't even feel it! The best part about ALO clothing??? It's all green and everything they stand for is GREEN! Visit their Define Your Green site HERE and see what they are all about!

Road ID Review!

Road ID. What a concept! Just in case you aren't familiar with a Road ID, it is a way to let someone know who you are, who to call, and other important information about you in case of an emergency. As you can see from the picture, they can be as simple as a small band that you wear on your wrist when you train. I wear mine every time I walk out the door to run or ride my bike. Mine was furnished to me by Scott at Outside PR. And what a wonderful gift it has been!
While I've never had an accident while training, I have come close. I have had a close call both on my feet and on my bike, and I am very relieved to say that my husband's and my mother's phone numbers were right there on my wrist for anyone to find. The picture below shows a close up of my Road ID.

I chose yellow for my Road ID simply because I felt like if someone were having to tend to me while I was hurt, yellow would be an easy color for them to notice. My Road ID has my name, location, husband's phone number, mother's phone number, and a reference to a penicillin allergy, just in case doctors need to know. I feel very safe wearing my Road ID, knowing that someone can get in touch with my family and could save my life.

Not only is the Road ID a great concept, but it's made to be light and virtually weight-free while you wear it. As a runner, I don't like to wear anything that I feel is weighing me down. I don't even know the Road ID is there! It's awesome and could save your life in a heartbeat! They wear them in the Tour de France...you should wear one too! It could honestly SAVE YOUR LIFE!

Ryders Eyewear Review - AGAIN!

Once again, I'm posting my Ryders Eyewear review...accidentally deleted it! Silly me!
I was fortunate enough to receive two pairs of sunglasses from Scott and Devon at Outside PR to try and review here on my blog. All there is to say about both pairs is , WOW!
The first pair I received are the Ryders Flange that you see in the picture above. You can also view them on the Ryders website, by clicking HERE. My Flange have black frames with brown polycarbonate lenses that have 100% UV protection. They also have adjustable anti-slip nose pads and adjustable temple tips. I have never been one to wear sunglasses when I run, because I can't find a pair that I like and are comfortable wearing. I honestly thought I wasn't meant to wear sunglasses while being physically active. Well, the folks at Outside PR and Ryders Eyewear have proven me wrong! I absolutely love my new Ryders sunglasses! They don't slip, they aren't heavy, and they don't even feel like I'm wearing sunglasses at all! And they are even comfortable with a hat!
Now, I love the Flange for running, but the other pair I received are the pair that I like to wear when I ride my bike. They are the Ryders Sprint with hot red frames and brown flash lenses.

These also have the adjustable nose pads and temple tips so that pretty much anyone can wear them and be comfortable. When I ride my bike, these fit under my helmet better than the Flange, and they are just as comfortable! I LOVE MY RYDERS!

Coach Plummer's Cross Country 5K Race!

WOW! What a week it's been! Not only have we gotten in over 20 miles on our feet this week, but most of it was done cross country, in the grass! Not to mention, the grass was wet and very slick! We ran the course on Tuesday night and Thursday night to prepare ourselves for the race on Saturday. Well, when we woke up Saturday morning, not only was it thundering, but pouring buckets of rain. GREAT! Now, I don't mind the rain when I run. I won't say I like it, but I'd rather have rain than run in the beating sun!
The rain cleared before the start of the race and while the grass was still wet, the rain lowered the temperature and the humidity enough so that it was a very nice run!
I finished in 28:47...almost two minutes faster than we'd run it all week! Woo hoo! Second place in my age group! And...my running buddy, Bobbie, took third place in her age group! And Twila got first place in our age group! What a day for running!

And...get a load of this picture of me as I cross the start line! HILARIOUS! What on Earth am I doing?

On top of that, today was the first long run in a string of many for me and my partner to get ready for the Louisville Half Marathon on October 17, 2010! I was a little weary at first because it's been awhile since I've done anything longer than 5 miles, and we had planned on doing 7 miles. We ran that 7 miles like we owned it! It felt like we'd been doing long runs all summer! It felt great! Thanks Bobbie for a great run! (View Bobbie's blog by clicking HERE! ) And on top of 7 miles on foot, I then rode my bike 3 miles so that I was sure to make my goal of 30 miles for the week! And what a week it was!
